Obadiah Mead was born on March 10, 1785, in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. His parents were Edmund Mead and Theodosia Mead. He married 1st Ruth Hebbard on June 22, 1809.[1] Together they had 3 children:

  1. Theodosia Mead
  2. Benjamin Mead
  3. Mary Mead

He married 2nd Alla Mead in 1825. Together they had 1 child:

  1. Solomon Mead

He died on February 20, 1878, in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States

  • "Saturday, March 10, a number of relatives and friends of Deacon Obadiah Mead met at his residence to tender him their congratulations on having reached his ninety-second birthday. There were present his oldest son Benjamin, his wife and son from Rye, his son-in-law Isaac Knapp, his wife and daughter from Round Hill, his son Solomon S. Mead and family, Deacon S. H. Mead of North Greenwich and the pastor of the church in that place." [2]
  • Excerpts from a sermon given at his funeral by Rev. Alpheus Winter at the Congregation Church of North Greenwich, CT: "Dea. Obadiah Mead was born March 10, 1785 and died Feb 20, 1878." "It is an interesting fact that he took his name from an uncle that was killed in the Revolutionary Struggle." "He is the last of seven brothers and sisters...we have brought his mortal remains today, from the old homestead which has been in possession of the same family since Benjamin Mead bought it in 1728--150 years at the present time...He united with the Second Church in Greenwich on the 8th day of April 1810. He was ordained a Deacon of this church Sept 28, 1828. " [3]
