Reginald or Reynold Meade was born in about 1530 in Elmdon and died in 1589 in Elmdon. He is first found in Common Pleas records in 1555 concerning a land transaction:
1555 Easter term Essex. Thomas Willowes pays 10 shillings to the king and queen to have concord with Reginald Mede and Barbara his wife concerning 2 messuages, 1 toft, 1 garden, 10 acres land, 5 acres meadow, 29 acres pasture, 4 acres brush in Hadstock, Essex.[1]
In another transaction, in 1571, he was buying land in Elmdon, Wendon Lofts and elsewhere:
1571 Michaelmas Essex. Reginald Meade, gent, gives 10 shillings to the Queen to concord with Richard Cutt, esq, and Mary his wife concerning half of the manor of Mountnes & Dagworthes with appurtenances and half of 8 messuages, 40 acres land, 7 acres of meadow, 50 acres of pasture, 50 acres of wood and 40 shillings rent with appurtenances in Elmedon, Wenden Loftes, Crishall, Strettall and Arkesden.[2]
He was in the will of his father, Thomas Meade of Stapleford, in 1558, receiving land in Elmdon. [3]
In his own will (PCC 1589), [4]Reginald Meade mentions his wife Barbara, his sons Thomas, Richard, John, and Edward, and daughters Francis Wise (wife of Edward Wise), and Martha, Agnes and Mary Meade.
His sons Thomas and Richard were his executors.
