Richard was born about 1525. He was the son of Richard Mede. He passed away after 1561.
In the will of his mother, Agnes (Parish) Mede in 1555, Richard Mede received one cow and half of her oxen to be divided between him and his brother Robert. [1]
When his brother, Robert Mede of Clavering, made his will in 1556, his wife was great with child. Robert wished that if that child should die, then his house and land should go to Richard. [2]
Richard Mede occurs several times in the records of the Court of Common Pleas, but it is not always possible to know whether the record refers to father or son. However, after 1555 it must be the son.
In 1557, for example, he was being sued for debt:
London. Anthony Tunbredge, of Estwyck, Herts, baker, and Elizabeth Tunbreggy, of Estwick, widow, versus Richard Mede, of Claverynge, Essex, yeoman, for a debt of twenty pounds.[3]
In 1561 he also had a home in London:
London. John Golborne, executor of Thomas Golborne, of Stortford, Herts, versus Richard Mede of London, or of Claveryng, Essex, yeoman, for a debt of 20 marks. [4]
Richard Mede has not been found after 1561.
