Research Notes
Jonas Meador died prior to Jan 1841 in Cumberland Co., VA. This is established by Cumberland County Order Book 1839-1844, Page 215, 1841, court: Isham A. Meador, Thomas L. Meador, Shelton Davis and Mary H. his wife formerly Mary H. Meador against Samuel Hatcher admin. of Jonas Meador, d'cd, and Jackson G. and William J. Meador, by Miller Woodson their guardian... Miller Woodson appointed guardian for infant defendants of Jackson G. and William J. Meador...divide slaves left by Jonas Meador etc...one to: Isham A. Meador, Thomas L. Meador, Shelton Davis and Mary his wife, Jackson G. Meador, William J. Meador. The court case has no mention of a widow and no dower or provisions were assigned to her. It appears that his unidentified wife predeceased him.
Jonas Meador appears to have been the son of Jesse Meador and Martha Johns. While the multiple men named Jonas Meador residing in Cumberland County Virginia have for the most part been connected with their correct lines, documentation is still needed to show that Jonas Meador who died intestate in Cumberland County Virginia between August 1840 and January 1841 was the son of Jesse Meador and Martha Johns.
