Biography

1776 Project
Private Jacob Meadows served with Rockingham County Militia, Virginia Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Jacob Meadows is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A076878.

Jacob Meadows was born in Orange County, Virginia in 1763. [1] Jacob was the son of Francis and Mary (Bell) Meadows. According to a census record, his father Francis Meadows Sr.was living in Orange County, Virginia in 1770.[2]

Wives and Children

Jacob was married twice.[1] His first marriage was about 1790, his second marriage was about 1815 to Sarah Berry. Sarah was possibly Cherokee Indian, but documentation is needed.[1]

At least two of Jacob's (documented) children are Jeremiah Meadows (who married Jennie Steele) and Adam Meadows (who married Sally Dick).[1]

Revolutionary War Service

Jacob served in the American Revolution, entering the service in 1781 in Rockingham County, Virginia, where he lived, in 1781. Based on his service, Jacob received a pension from the U.S. government.[1] [3] [4] Jacob filed his claim for a pension in 1832, in Giles County, West Virginia, where he was then living. Final payment on the pension was apparently made in 1838.[5] [4]

Death

Jacob is said have died before 13 October 1845, in Mercer County, West Virginia.[1] However, if final payment on his military pension was made in 1838,[4] that is a more likely date of death.

Notes

References to on-line family trees that are not sourced have been removed. Mary Arrington Nossaman removed as wife. No documentation found for verification. It is believed she was married to a Meadows, but not Jacob.

Meadows-2915 and Meadows-20 appear to represent the same person because: Same birth, death, parents. Appear to be problems with wives that may need sorting out.

The name of Jacob's first wife needs documentation from some source more reliable than "Ancestry Trees". It most likely was NOT Mary "Polly" Arrington, who was apparently the wife of a Joab Meadows.
