John Devenish-Meares was born on 16 June 1864 at Concord, New South Wales, Australia ^[1], the son of Frederick Potter Devenish-Meares and Elizabeth Ann Tooth, the half brother of Matilda Frederica Devenish-Meares (1883–1883), Frederick Thomas Devenish-Meares (1884–1971), Elsie Devenish-Meares (1886–1976), Muriel Devenish-Meares (1886–1960), Fanny Delia Devenish-Meares (1888–1919), Louisa May Knighton Devenish-Meares (1889–1958), Gwendoline Maud Devenish-Meares (1891–1990), Beatrice Devenish-Meares (1894–1953), Jean Devenish-Meares (1896–1921), Lorna Devenish-Meares (1897–1921), Clive Devenish-Meares (1903–1985) and Ellen Devenish-Meares (1904–1985).
