Sarah (Mearns) McElnay was born in Ireland.

Sarah was born in 1867. She is the daughter of James Mearns and Miriam Braithwaite. [1]

Sarah Mearns, a minor from Downpatrick married John Henry McElnay, Railway Station Master, of full age from Banbridge, on 23 December 1884 at the Church of Ireland, Down Parish, County Down, Ireland. Fathers Thomas McElnay (Farmer) and James Mearns (Gas Manager). Witnesses Helen Caven and ? Mearns. [2] [3]

Daughter Jane was born at Church St, Banbridge, County Down in 1885.

Daughter Edith was born at the Railway Station House, Dromore, County Down in 1887.

On 31 March 1901 the McElnay family lived in Castle Rd, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. John Henry McElnay (43) Railway Agent, wife Sara McElnay (32) with daughters Marion Georgina McElnay (10) and Sarah Evelyn McElnay (4) all Presbyterian with servant Teresia Meath (17) Roman Catholic. [4]

Husband John passed away in 1908, aged 49.

On 2 April 1911 Sarah (42) a widow lived in Castle Road, Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland. Daughters Jane A M'Elnay (23), Edith E V M'Elnay (22), Dolly M'Elnay (13), widowed mother Marion Mearns (63) all Presbyterian and born in County Down with Roman Catholic boarder James Dany (27) Clerk in Steampoctant Officer.
