Georgina was the daughter of George Mearns and Christina Booth of Scotland.
On 20 May 1849, Georgina was baptised at Marnoch Parish Church witnessed by Alexander Bruce and William Booth. At the time the family was resident in Corsky.[1]
In 1865 she boarded the ship 'Caribou' at Glasgow with her pregnant sister Margaret. Georgina was to be her sister's chaperone until they arrived in Port Chalmers, Dunedin. Her sister Margaret married shortly after their arrival to Fitzroy Stuart Maclean who she had fallen in love with in Glasgow. Unknown to both sisters Fitzroy had worked his passage out to New Zealand as a Seaman on the Caribou.
Two years later in 1867, Georgina married David Bowers, a Seaman, at the Knox Church, Dunedin. She had 9 children to David but 6 died as infants.
Georgina died in 1903 age 50 and is buried at the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin. BLK 33 PLOT 1.[2]
