Biography
Nellie Mears was born on the 1st of June 1899, in Bradford West Riding, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, to parents William Mears and Mabel May nee Roach. In the 1911, England and Wales Census Nellie was 11 years old and a school student, residing with her parents, siblings and cousins, in Bradford, Horton, Yorkshire (West Riding). Her household was full with the total number equalling ten, however her two cousins were only visiting.
Her father William was employed as an Army Pensioner Parcel Collector for Bradford City Tramways and this explains why the family did not appear in the earlier census databases. He was possible stationed else where for duty. The birthplace of Nellie's older siblings Henry, aged 17 and May, 14, were both born in South Africa.
At the time of the census (1911) Henry was employed at Bradford city tramways with his father as a parcel messenger, and May was employed as a Burler and Mender worsted coatings.
The younger siblings listed in the census were Charles, 7; Edna, 6; Milton, 4; and Jack 3. The visiting cousins names were Ethel (6) and Florence (3) Costello, both born in Holyhead, Anglesey.
Eleven years later in April 1922, Nellie met and married John Walsh Linskill and they had a daughter named Joyce.
Nellie passed away on the 13th April 1951 in Bradford, Yorkshire.
