George Medd was born on June 25, 1817 and baptized on 28 June 1817 at Whitby,York,England[1]. His parents were Robert Medd and Hannah Fleck[2].
On 31 October 1840 he registered notice of marriage to Mary Ann Turner at Whitby, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom [3].
On 1 November 1840, at the age of 23, he married Mary Ann Turner (abt.1821-) (aged 20) in the parish church of St Mary the Virgin at Whitby, North Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. His occupation is given as grocer and he was living at Flowergate, Whitby at the time while his spouse lived at Church Street[4][5][6]. Notice for the marriage was given on 31 October 1840 at Whitby, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom[7]. On the 7th of November notification of this marriage was published in the Yorkshire Gazette [8]. Together they had 10 children:

- Ann [10],
- Edward [11],
- William [12].
- Hannah [13],

- Elizabeth [18],
In 1841 he was 20, a grocer living at Flowergate, Whitby, Yorkshire, England with his wife Mary. He had an apprentice grocer John Miller (15) living with him and a servant Hannah Breckon (15), both born in Yorkshire. [19][20].
