Biography

The following is a direct quote from the "History of Pleasants County to 1980"

William Medley, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War. He was from Old Virginia and of English descent. He married the sister of Jacob and Isaac LaRue. They lived in a log cabin half a mile north of St. Marys.

According to the "Index of the Revolutionary Records" in the Virginia State Archives", compiled by Dr. H. J. Eckenrode in 1912 and 1914, he was a seargent in the 2nd Virginia Regiment, Continental Line. He was of English descent, and he came to West Virginia from Essex County, Virginia after the death of his wife following the Revolution. He settled along the Ohio River about a half mile north of St. Marys. After he was there a while, he married the sister of Jacob and Issac LaRue. He lived in a hewed log house and farmed Middle Island, an island in the Ohio River.
