Biography

Jemima Meek was born on (26 March 1796 or 26 March 1799[1])[2][3] in West Liberty, Brooke County, Virginia, United States[2][3]. She was LIKELY the daughter of Lieutenant Isaac John Meek[1] and Rachel Hedges[1] (Married 31 January 1792 by James Hughs V.D. M., license issued 27 January 1792 Ohio County, Virginia, United States[4]). [Note: The area known as Ohio Co, Virginia was located in a small area between Pennsylvania and Ohio. It is now the panhandle of West Virginia. Many of the families that were early settlers of SW Pennsylvania migrated the short distance to east central Ohio. Brooke County was formed in 1797 from part of Ohio County.[5]]

Jemima married Cornelius Howard[1][6][7][8][9][10] on 29 April 1824[1][6][8][9][10] in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States[6][8][9][10].

Jemima and Cornelius had two children: Captain John Meek Howard and Joshua Howard.

Jemima's first husband Cornelius Howard passed away in 1828. (See Find A Grave: Memorial #32815803)

Jemima married Nathan Johnson/Johnston[1][11][12] on 31 March 1831[11][12] in Harrison County, Ohio, United States[11][12]. An alternate UNSOURCED date of marriage per FamilySearch is 10 April 1830[1].

Jemima and Nathan had five children: Emeline (Johnson) Wright[13], Nancy A (Johnson)[2], Rachel Meek (Johnson) Lukens[2], Cynthia (Johnson) Birney[2][3][14] and Harriet (Johnson) Cash[2][3][15][16][17].

Jemima (Meek) Johnson (formerly Howard) passed away on (20 April 1865[1] or 30 April 1865) in Deersville, Harrison County, Ohio, United States[1].

She is buried in Sharon Cemetery, Nottingham Township, Harrison County, Ohio, United States.

  • http://meekgenealogy.com/Group_B/B25_001.htm#P328 - This link has quite a lineage and lots of siblings listed but is VERY MUCH unsourced (and acknowledges this fact). It does agree with the DOB (exact), DOD (off 10 days but agrees on location) and marriages to Cornelius Howard (exact date) and Nathan Johnson (matches the unsourced and likely incorrect marriage date). It may well have been the source of other information included in this biography that is currently unsourced.
