Biography

William was born and raised in Casey County and lived there his entire life. He was a well known farmer and active in the community. In his younger years, he was a Casey County postmaster, He was a Grand Master of King's Mountain Mason Lodge and served a term as a county Magistrate. He married a local Casey County girl, Arizona Meeks (family relationship unknown at this time) and they had 7 children. He and Arizona are shown in the 1910 US Federal Census as married, with 3 children, owning a farm. He was 40, Arizona was 27. In the 1910 census, William is living at home with both parents, so he married a little later than the norm. Arizona died in 1926, when their youngest child was 7, and William never remarried, raising the children on his own. In the 1940 census, he and Roy are living alone, at ages 70 and 21.
