Obituary
Mary Alice Mercer, aged 74 years, died May 29,1994, born October 28, 1919 to Myrtle Iowa Meeks & John Rolland Meeks in Clarke County Iowa.
Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers: Irvin Meeks of Portland, Oregon; and Earl Meeks of Indianola, Iowa; and her first husband James FitzSimons of Deming, New Mexico.
She is survived by her husband Charles Mercer of Lakeview Village, Carlsbad, New Mexico; her sister Esther McLane of Lubbock, Texas; and three children: Carolyn J. FitzSimons of Springfield, Ohio, Brian K. and J. Phillip FitzSimons of Fairbanks, Alaska and 5 granddaughters: Bronwyn, Tamara, Heidi, Brenna and Allana, and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was a beautician in her earlier years, and after marriage was more oriented with family and friends.
She lived in New Jersey with her husband and three children until James was forced to retire due to health problems. They then moved to Deming, New Mexico until his death, January 9, 1971.
In May of 1973 she married her childhood friend, Charles Mercer of Bell Gardens, California.
After his retirement from Tappen, O'Kieff and Merritt in 1977 they returned to Deming where they lived until 1988. Then they moved to Lakeview Village, Carlsbad, New Mexico.
She was a member of Sunset Church of Christ in Carlsbad.[1]
