Biography

Memorial services for Alfred ]. "Al" Meester, 88, will be conducted at 11 a..m., Monday, Dec.13, in the chapel of Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery, with the Rev. Leonard Robinson officiating. Mili- tary honors will be accorded by Natrona County United Veterans Council.

He died Dec. 8, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Montana. Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Glenvil, Neb., he was the son of William Hiram and Harriet Dora (Sanders) Meester.

On Aug. 16, 1938, in Superior, Neb., he married Rosey Kempkes.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving as an avia- tion ordnance man in the Pacific. After his military service, he worked in the oilfield until 1960.

In 1961, he went to ‘barber school and‘ later operated North Casper Barber Shop and K Street Barber Shop, working over 25 years in the trade. From 1978 until 1987, he worked at Cowboy Rental and U-Haul.

In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, camping and spend- ing time in the outdoors.He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Patricia Ann Clapp of Caulfield, Mo., Mary L. Miller of Glenrock, Carol Anderson Sharon Brossett, both of Casper; a son, Richard Meester of Kennewick, Wash.; a sister, Florence Unkin of Aurora, Neb.; a brother, Bill Meester of Charleston, W.V.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Rosalie Adams, a brother and five sisters.

Memorials in his honor can be made to the Shriner's Burn Center for Children, Fairfax Rd. at Virginia St., Salt Lake City, UT 84103.

Arrangements are under the direction of Newcomer Family Funeral Home and Crematory.[1]
