Descendants of John Meighen and Christena Watters

Thomas and Catherine were likely married in the Guernsey County, Ohio area where Thomas is noted with land records in 1833 and appears to be in the 1840 Beaver township census there. The family of Thomas and Catherine also made the move to Huntington township, Ross County, Ohio (like other members of this Meighen family), and are found in the census therefrom 1850 through 1880. In line with other children of John and Christena Meighen, daughter Catherine was born in Pennsylvania to an Irish born father and Pennsylvania born mother. Both Thomas and Catherine lived past the 1880 census, and their family included John, James, Sarah J., Ceselia, William P., Thomas W., and Eliza Ellen.

John M, James and Ceselia, elder children of Thomas and Catherine

Sarah Jane born on October 13, 1841, in Ross County and remained single throughout her life. She lived with her younger sister Eliza until her death on March 01, 1928, in Pultney Twp, Belmont Co., Ohio. Sarah's death certificate cites her parents as Thomas Delong and Catherine Meehin (Noble Co., Ohio natives). She was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery, Bellaire, Belmont County, Ohio.

William Penn was born March 13, 1847, in Ross County and he married Eva F Richardson in the same county in 1869. They lived in Ross County up until the time of Eva's death in 1920. William would later live with his children, passing away on January 12, 1941, at Lynchburg, Highland Co., Ohio. They raised a family that included Laura H, Emma W, Gusta B, Katherine, Martha, Edith, Edna, Gertrude, Milburn Hugh, and twins Lowell M and William P. William's death certificate cites his parents as Thomas Delong and Catherine Mahan.

Thomas W was born December 27, 1853, in Ross County and he married Flora Jeanette Holdren in 1877 Ross County. They raised their family and spent their remaining lives in Ross County, Thomas dying in 1934, and Flora in 1942. Their family included Alvin Otis, Katie V, Ethel, Leora Ellen, Thomas Roscoe, Maude, and Goldie. Thomas' death certificate cites his parents as Thomas Delong and Katherine Meighen (Ohio natives). Thomas and Flora are buried at Grandview Cemetery in Chillicothe.

Eliza Ellen was born on May 10, 1855, in Ross County and married James Carney in the same county in 1888. They had a family of four daughters, Rosa, Bessie, Alta, and Vernie. They lived in Pultney Township, Belmont County, Ohio, where James passed away in 1919, while Eliza lived until 1941. Eliza's death certificate cites her parents as Thomas Long and Catherine Meighen (Ohio natives). She was buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
