Biography

1776 Project
Colonel Return Meigs served with 2nd Connecticut Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Return Meigs is Notable.
Col Meigs served during the Revolution. He was one of the founding members of The Ohio Land Company which began the first settlements of the Northwest Territory in what is now Ohio. He was later an Indian agent for the Cherokee people in Tennessee. His son, Return Jonathan Meigs, Jr. was the 4th governor of Ohio. No source has been presented to support the statement that he died in GA or elsewhere than the neighborhood of burial.
