Françoise Melancon, daughter of Pierre Melanson and Marie-Rosalie Blanchard, was born 27 February 1709, and baptized 28 February 1709.[2][3]
Françoise (16) married Joseph Theriot (25) (born about 1699 in Cobeguit, Acadie, Nouvelle-France; son of Pierre Thériot and Marie Bourg) on 14 October 1725 in Saint-Charles-des-Mines, Grand-Pré, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia.[4][5][6]
Their known children were:
In 1750, Francoise, with her husband, Joseph, and their seven children, moved to île St. Jean.[6]
In 1752, the family was at Rivière du Ouest, Isle Saint-Jean. Their lot was on the north side of the Riviere du Ouest. It was given to them verbally by Monsieur de Bonaventure. He, in turn, gave the lot to his son-in-law, Charles Henry. Joseph left the lot and went to Bedeque.[7][6]
In 1763, they were recorded much further south in Halifax, Nova Scotia.[6]
She arrived in Louisiana in 1765, age 56, widow of Joseph Thériot of Cobeguit; having come with four sons--Thomas, age 20, Ambroise, age 17, Paul-Hippolyte, age 14, and François-Xavier, called Xavier, age 12.[1]
In the Cabanocey census of 1766, on the left [east] bank, she was called Franca MELESSON widow TERIOT & Francoise MELLENSON widow TERRIOT, age 57, with sons Thomas THERIOT, age 21, Ambroise THERIOT age 18, Paul THERIOT age 15, & Exavier THERIOT age 12, 0 slaves, 4 arpents, 0 cattle, 0 sheep, 0 hogs, 0 guns.[8]
DOBR gives marriage year as 1724, though Reader gives 1725, citing White and others, noting the discrepancy with DOBR. (Bourque-573 20:24, 27 August 2022 (UTC))

at Rivière du Ouest : Joseph Terriaud, ploughman, native of l'Acadie, aged 53 years, has been in the country two years. Married to Françoise Melançon, native of l'Acadie, aged 44 years. They have seven children, five sons and two daughters:-
Estienne Terriaud, aged 21 years.
Jacques, aged 15 years
Thomas, aged 9 years
Ambroise, aged 4 years
Paul, aged one year.
Margueritte Suzanne, aged 12 years
Marie Magdeleine, aged 7 years.
They have in live stock two oxen, two cows, one heifer, one calf, two sows, and one pig. The land upon which they are settled is situated as in the preceding case, and was given to them under similar conditions. They would be able next spring to sow about four bushels of wheat, but he leaves this locality to go to Bedecq[sic] to live, and Charles Henry, his son-in-law is coming to live on this lot.
