Thank you for co-captaining Team Roses for the 2024 source-A-Thon and keeping us up-to-date. We had 100% participation! Not only did we source 2476 profiles together, we proposed merges, and corrected last names, relationships, and data. A whole lot of great cleaning happened.

OOPS! I figured it out. I needed to scroll down to see the tabs. I can finish my review now. However, the profiles are created for Montgomery, Indiana, 1880 census. Bev Enslow (Felty296)

Hi,

The Montgomery, Indiana County 1880 Census has its profiles done. I was reviewing them before I submitted this and closed the file thinking I could come back and finish the review as there are a number of files that I missed putting the 1880 Census category on. I tried to come back, but apparently it is closed because 100 % of the files are created. Bev Enslow

Christy - I am doing a ton of research involving the 1880 Census for Grimes County, Texas. Since, I'm working there already, I'd love to contribute to the 1880 census project. Is it possible to get a spreadsheet for Grimes County, Texas?

Annette

Annette- Sorry I missed this when you first posted it. I've now added Grimes County to our requests list and we'll let you know when the spreadsheet is ready.

Hi Christy. I was working the Black Heritage project then got sidetracked a little. Now I want to access what I've done, but also work on the Putnam County, WV census for a bit. (I'm looking for two men who were part of an 1858 murder trial.) I'm having some difficulty getting back to the menu for Cabell and Putnam counties. Suggestions?

I'm assuming you're talking about the 1880 census project? The West Virginia page is here and it has links to the spreadsheets for each of those counties.

Once again, I have a family member of those on my spreadsheet who is not herself on the spreadsheet. I need to add her profile # unknown-673422 - Her name is Paraline Tamer., the daughter of Clarissa Beasley, who is on my sheet.
I'm coming along swimmingly, having done 85. I have decided to create profiles without adding further sources, until I finish. When I hit a problem occasionally, I then look further, like to find the correct spelling or relationship. However, when doing a household, I've come on one not on my spreadsheet, because his name is Johnie Nash and my spread sheet just goes through L. I've created a profile - Nash-11947 - but can't record it. Can you or someone who has that spreadsheet fill that in and check his household as done? by me - mounger-571.

I'd welcome any more advice. Thanks.

What county and state are you working on? There generally should be additional tabs that would have the rest of the residents for the county - you may need to look at the bottom of the spreadsheet to find them. For some really large counties, there may be several spreadsheets for the county, but they should all be linked from the |state's free space page. If they're not there, the additional tabs/spreadsheets have not been created yet but are probably on our to-do list, so you'd probably just need to wait until they get created.

I know y'all are up to your eyeballs in spreadsheet requests, but I have spent an entire day trying to create a spreadsheet for Lowndes County, Georgia and have been unsuccessful. In 1880 the census reports over 5,000 Black and mulatto residents. I live in Lowndes and would like to sink my teeth into the 1880 Project. If you're backlogged, I completely understand and will work on unconnected profiles. I'm going to keep practicing on doing the spreadsheets until I get it right. Thanks for your gargantuan efforts!

Thanks Leslie!

We'd definitely appreciate help with creating spreadsheets!

Please carefully read and follow the directions on this page and use the requests spreadsheet to track your work. It looks like there are several locations in New York that you were interested in that are already listed on the requests spreadsheet, so those counties would be a great place to start!

Please reach out if you have any questions/problems as you work on creating spreadsheets! I am getting a lot of messages about this project right now, so I may not be able to respond right away, but so far I've been managing to respond to everyone within a few days.

Heads up for when you get to Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio. As part of USBH 1880, I have created profiles for the parents of B.C. (Burget) Freeman - Morgan Lewis and Catherine (unknown) Freeman, and some siblings in Cayuga, New York. "Ohio, County Death Records, 1840-2001", , FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F6VP-9MY : Sat Dec 16 05:17:00 UTC 2023), Entry for B. C. Freeman and Luke, 31 Mar 1887. There are other sources on Family Search.
posted by Jane Embleton
Thanks Jane! As we work through various locations, we'll come across a number of pre-existing profiles. People should be be checking for duplicates/pre-existing profiles before creating new ones, so if the 1880 spreadsheet for a location hasn't been created yet, you don't need to worry about it. Adding a location category for the place where they were living in 1880 will help people find these profiles, so if these profiles don't already have the category for Cleveland, Ohio, it would be helpful to add it to their profiles.

Christy -- I got your message about the profiles I've done for the USBH monthly challenges & using the "USBH needs sources" category when there's only one source. Emma MacBeath sent me a message earlier this month asking me to use "USBH Heritage Exchange" on profiles I create. Are both categories needed? I got the impression that "USBH Heritage Exchange" was meant to flag a reviewer who would then add other categories. Also, when I'm basing a profile on a slaveowner's will or inventory and an additional source is very unlikely, do I still put the "needs sources" category?? Thanks for letting me know.-- AMH
