Martin Luther Melick was born on 27 Jan 1853 in Lower Augusta Township, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, in the United States of America.[1] He was the son of Henry H Melick and Lydia Hileman and grew up in Lower Augusta Township.[2][3]
Martin attended Pennsylvania College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania (present-day Gettysburg College) and became a Lutheran pastor, beginning his ministry in 1880.[1]
Martin married Mary E Fortner on 25 Dec 1879 at Mary's parents' home in Nescopeck, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.[1][4][5] Around 1880, they moved to Nebraska and Martin pastored several churches in Nebraska and Iowa throughout his career.[6] In 1885, they were living in Waverly, Lancaster County, Nebraska, in 1900 they lived in Fort Madison, Lee County, Idaho, and in 1910 they lived in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. They had three children:[7][8][9]
Martin died at his daughter Grace's home in Omaha, Nebraska on 7 Jul 1919.[1][6][10] He was buried in Graceland Park Cemetery in Omaha.[11]
