John William Mellor was born in London on 26 July 1835 and was baptised on 31 August 1835 in Peckham, London, England.[1] [2]
He was the son of John Mellor and Elizabeth Cooke Moseley.

In 1860 John married Caroline Paget. The marriage was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1860 in Basford, England.[3]

At the time of the 1861 England and Wales census, John William Mellor was listed as a visitor in the home of William Moseley Mellor in Castleton, Lancashire.[4]
At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Barrister At Law In Practice".

At the time of the 1871 England and Wales census, John W, Caroline, and Ellen Mellor were listed as visitors in the home of Caroline's brother Joseph Paget in Pleasley, Nottinghamshire, along with two other visitors and 10 servants. [5]
At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Barrister At Law In Practice".

At the time of the 1881 England and Wales Census, John William and Caroline were listed at 68, St Georges Square in St George Hanover Square, Middlesex, England with their children John P. (19), Ellen M. (17), Geraldine E. (12), Sidney P. (6), and nine servants.[6]

At the time of the 1891 England and Wales Census, John William, Caroline, John Paget, and Sidney Paget Mellor were listed as living in Pitminster, Somerset, along with two visitors and eight servants. [7]
At the time of the census, John's occupation was listed as "Privy Councillor Q.C(Em'er)".

At the time of the 1911 England and Wales Census, John William was listed as widower, retired K.C. (King’s Counsel), and living with six servant at 68 St Georges Square S W, St George Hanover Square, London & Middlesex, England.[8]

John died in Culmhead, Somerset on 13 October 1911. His death was registered in Taunton in the fourth quarter of 1911.[9]
