She was born on March 8, 1910, in Fayette, Utah to Delbert and Mary Mellor, the fourth of the family's seven children. She married David Shingleton Cook and together they reared one daughter, Doris. Emma was a woman of remarkable strength and determination. There was no job too hard for her to accomplish, no challenge so difficult that she could not meet it, and no act of service rendered without compassion and generosity. The careful and precise way that she kept her property and conducted her personal affairs testified to a life of discipline, order, and integrity.Emma was a passionate gardener and outdoors woman. She fished, camped, hunted, and boated. She was a fine golfer and an accomplished seamstress and quilter. She was also skilled in construction and worked side by side with her husband as they built their own home. Emma was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She considered the ten years that she worked in the Jordan River Temple to be the greatest privilege of her ninety years. Emma was loved by her family and had many dear friends and neighbors with whom she shared her life. She will especially miss the visits and kindness of her young friends, Chase and Riley. Emma is survived by her daughter, Doris May Cook; a sister, Lula Crandall; and by eight grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 10 great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Sandy 1st Ward, 8650 South 220 East, where friends may call 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn. Funeral directors, Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary.
