John Mellison, servant to John Renny, was presented for fornication. His mistress agreed to pay his fine and cost of prosecution, so he was acquitted from corporal punishment.
Elizabeth Panter, servant to John Renny, was presented for fornication with John Mellson. Her mistress agreed to pay her fine and cost of prosecution so she was acquitted from corporal punishment.
John Mellison, servant to John Renny, had fathered Eliza Panter's bastard child, ordered that Mellison remain in the sheriff's custody till security bond for his good behavior and for saving the parish the cost of supporting the child. He paid Court costs.
John Melson was named as a headright on 12 June 1672 at Somerset Co, MD. It was on this date that John Reny of Somerset County came and proved his right in 300 acres of land to him for transporting John Reny and Mary Reny my wife, John Melson, Elizabeth Melson, Henry Allen & Warren Day to this province to inhabit Somerset County in the Province of Maryland planter for and inconsideration to me in hand paid & do assign sell and set over and by these presents have sold and made over to John Baker of St. Marys County all my right, title and interest in these rights following John Reny, Mary Reny, John Melson, Elizabeth Melson, Henry Allen and Warren Day, which I did transport into this Province to inhabit. On 16 Dec 1679 in Accomack Court John Melson produced a certificate signed by Maj. Charles Scarburgh stating that Melson captured Mr. William Anderson's servant named Jannet Barry, who at the time was 40 miles away from her master's house. After making oath to the same, Melson was granted a certificate to the next assembly
On 3 Jan 1682/83 in Accomack Court John Melloy sued Robert Edge for 600 lbs tobacco, but Edge failed to appear. Then on 3 Jul 1683 John Mellson sued Robert Edge but filed no petition: a nonsuit was granted against Melson, with court cost
On 2 Jun 1683 in Accomack Court John Melson was to be paid 1200 lbs tobacco for a child that was put to him to be nursed
On 27 Mar 1684 in Accomack Court Mr. John Parker sued John Mellson for 3000lbs tobacco in damages. The case was continued to the next court because there was no jury avaliable
On 6 Aug 1684 in Accomack Court John Mellson petitioned for payment for himself and his wife, who both attended court for two days, being summoned as witnesses by Samuel Fittiman against William Anderson. Ordered that Fittiman pay the 160 lbs tobacco and court charges

On 16 Nov 1687 in Accomack Court the suit of Mr. Adam Micheal (Attorney: Mr. Holden) against John Mellson was referred to the next court by the consent of both parties
John died before 18 September 1694 at Accomack Co, VA. It was on this date that Robert Atkins of Accomack County in Virginia for ye Love good will and affection which I have and benne unto my Loveing Godson Samuel Mellson son of John Mellson formerly of ye aforesd County have Given and granted and by these presents do freely clearly and absolutely give and grant unto ye sd Samuell Mellson and his heirs for Ever one black pyed crumpled horn Cow end her Calfe marked as followeth over halved and a hole on ye right ear and Cropt on ye Left with all their female encrease untill ye sd Samuel shall attain to ye age of Twenty one years and the male encrease to be his that shall Keep ye female untill ye sd Samuel shell etteine to ye above age and after that age both male and female to run and be the sd Samuel Melson his and his heirs for Ever and if ye sd Samuel shell happen to die without issue then ye sd Cow and Calfe and encrease to be the youngest Sister of the sd Samuel Melson and her heirs for Ever In Witness whereof I have set my hand & seele this 18 Septembr 1694. MFIA [MELSON FAMILY IN AMERICA] The first mention of John Melson, a servant of John Renny of Accomack County, VA, is found in Accomack County,VA Court Order Abstracts, 1666-1670, Vol.2, JoAnn Riley McKey, In this same reference, his fiance and future wife, Elizabeth Penter(Painter) is mentioned. The first record though of her presence in Virginia is in Ref. (2), she was listed as a Headright by John Renny 16 Feb.1663/4. Just when John Melson was transported by John Renny is not known, but 1665 would be a logical estimate.
The third record concerning both John Melson and Elizabeth Painter is Somerset County, MD Judicials Liber AZ8 folio 43 announcing the publication of their banns, 9 Jan 1671/2.They were married 4 April 1672 at Rehoboth Plantation, south of Pocomoke, Somerset County, MD by Robert Maddox, Clarke. A fourth entry, Maryland Land Records 1670-1673 folio 530, "Came John Reny of Somerset County and proved his right to Three hundred acres of Land to him for transporting John Reny Mary Reny John Melson Elizabeth Melson Henry Allen and Warren Day to this Province to inhabit Somerset County in the Province of Maryland planter for and by these presents and in consideration to be paid & do Assigne Sell and Set Over and by these presents have Signed sold and made over to John Baker of St.Maries County all my Rights Title and Interest in Rights following John Reny Mary Reny John Melson Elizabeth Melson Henry Allen Warren Day which I did transport into the province here to In- habit whereof I have here unto set my hand & Seale this 12th day of June 1672. Tho. Taylor & John Betts John Reny sealed"
John Renny is first listed as being transported into Virginia by Thomas Teague in 1652,his indenture was purchased in 1653 by Charles Scarburgh. When released from his indenture, he purchased land in Accomack County, 400 acres on Muddy Creek, Jan 10,1662, another 400 acres also on Muddy Creek, Feb.13,1663,and 500 acres Patented on Crooked Creek, Sep.10,1664. That same year, he sold 200 acres on Muddy Creek to William Wallis.
John Melson was released from his Indenture by 1671. He acquired land in Accomack County,VA. and also became a Trader. He was mentioned in the Inventory of James Williams of Calvert County,MD Jun.23,1683(Ref.12). He was listed on the Tax Rolls of Accomack County,VA for 1675-1683(Ref.4). He also Patented "The Gore", Nanticoke Hundred, Somerset County,MD, 200 acres in 1685.(MD Hall of Records Microfilm M393 folio 885,Calvert Rent Rolls 1639-1723.
John and Elizabeth, after marriage, had three known sons(Ref.6)Samuel,John Jr.& Joseph. On Oct.19,1694, Accomack County Clerks Office, filed by Robert Atkins a deed "to my loving Godson, Samuel Melson, son of John Melson formerly of aforesaid County, gift of cattle. "Samuel about 21 years old left Accomack County,VA, settling in Nanticoke Hundred, Somerset County,MD as a Planter.
