John Melton performed Patriotic Service in North Carolina in the American Revolution.

John Melton was born in 1742 in Edgecombe, North Carolina, son of Zacariah Melton (<1720 - <1792) and Sarah (Thomas) Melton (~1722 - 1801).

John married Elizabeth Jones (1745 - 1805) Their children were:

  1. Mary (Melton) Hart (1763 - 1840)
  2. David Melton (1765 - 1815)
  3. Matthew Melton (1767 - 1845)
  4. Joseph Melton (~1772 - )
  5. Phoebe (Melton) Benton (~1775 - ~1815)
  6. Cooper Melton (1777 - 1849)
  7. Ann Melton (~1778 - )
  8. Thomas Melton (~1787 - ).

John died on 29 Apr 1797 in Nash aged ~54.

John Melton died around Aug 1800 in Nash County, North Carolina. [3] John Melton's Will was written 1797 and provided in court Aug 1800. Siblings received equal division of the estate David Melton, Matthew Melton, Joseph Melton, Fereby Melton, Ann Melton, Cooper Melton and Mother Elizabeth Melton. bequeathed before division: Son Cooper Melton receives 150 acres. Thomas Melton receives plantation where father now lives containing 146 acres. Wife Elizabeth her choice of one feather bed and furniture. Daughter Mary Hart 5 shillings. [3]
