Anthony Newton "Newt" was born in 1831. Newt was one of nine children of John Jacob "Jack" Melton (1799-1881) and Belinda May (1801-1884) and he is listed with them on the 1850 Census in his hometown of Gallia, Ohio. [1]On 8 July 1856 in Mercer County, Missouri, he married Minerva Catherine Moore. [2] His find-a-grave memorial links him to the profiles of ten children.
According to a note left at his Find-A-Grave Memorial; they had at least 14 children: Clayborn (1854-1855); Perry (1858-1859); Charles (1860-); Shannon Jasper (1862-1912); Louvilla (1863-1944); W. Howard (1866-1875); Robert Sherman (1866-1946); John Jefferson (1869-1955); Dacota Eliza "Cody" (1872-)[3]; Buffon Darry (1876-1943); Curtis M. (1878-1953); Hattie Elgin (1880-1956); Mark Wood (1883-1979)[4]; and Miles Newton (1889-1978).
