Mary was born in 1838. She is the daughter of Phillip Melton and Jane Beesely. [1] A Mary Elizabeth Melton married T. W. Spears, 1859, Yalobusha County, Mississippi. [2] If that was the present Mary Melton, she is enumerated on the 1860 federal census twice. Once with her parents, [3] and once with her husband.[4]
