Gillian. I have been chasing Absolem Melton, wife of Mary (Lynne) Pollard, for a very long time and found nothing. Then I noticed that Pollard came up as wife of Richard Absolem Melton and realized there is no Absolem with a birth date of 1750. He is actually Richard Absolem Melton with a birthdate of 1722 and, in the process found the second account for Richard Absolem Melton [Melton-325]. I corrected the mistake on my account and requested a merge. Didn't mean to upset anyone; just wanted to get the facts straightened out. Hope that helps.
Gillian. Let me understand what should happen on a junk profile. Should I have noted on the junk profile that it was the same as a sourced profile but with the incorrect name and date, make note of the two profile IDs, and referred the junk profile to the Unknowns Project? If I had noted why I changed the name and birthdate before I merged them, would that have solved the problem, without having to treat the file as a junk profile? No doubt I will find another profile that is wrong and I want to be sure I handle it correctly. Thanks for your help. Cyndee
Hi Cindee, well first of all we shouldn't really be changing the original dates, even if you can't find a source initially, the original dates make him more likely to be a son or grandson than the same as the father. If you really can't find anything to connect him then, then he should be detached from the family with a research note to say who he's been detached from and why he doesn't belong in the family with any other information you've found. The first place to look is to try to find the original tree that he came from and see if there are any clues there. I will say though, all these Absoloms look like a nightmare to track down, and there seem to be quite a few of them!

Thanks for the information. You are so right! Not only are there a lot of Absolom Meltons, but also a myriad of John, Henry, William, Richard, and Thomas Meltons. And sometimes they are Meltons and sometimes they are Miltons. My bloodline is sometimes hard to trace. But I love tracing it!!
