He was taken to Hopkinsville for treatment. Bad health and grief over the death of his wife is thought to have affected his mind. He has five children." Wiley Melvin is adjudged insane--Wiley Melvin, aged about 40 years a well known citizen living near Cuba was tried Friday before Judge Gardner and adjudged of unsound mind. He was taken to the Hopkinsville Institute Saturday for treatment. Bad health and grief over the death of his wife is thought to have affected his mind. He has five children. It is thought that by proper treatment that his reason will be restored. Mr. Melvin's condition became noticeable about a week ago. Last Tuesday he left home, saying to his children that he was going to the doctor's office after some medicine. One of the strange spells attacked him and caused him to wander about over the country for two days. After he failed to show up the first day a search was instituted, but nothing could be heard from him. After searching for two days he was seen Friday morning in one of his neighbor's fields. Neighbors took him in charge and Friday afternoon was brought to the city. In his strange derangement Mr. Melvin had the hallucination that a crowd of men were after him with the intention of doing bodily harm or taking his life. One of the attendants of the Hopkinsville asylum came here Saturday morning and conveyed Mr. Melvin to that place. Received payment from Graves County for hauling gravel for road work. Paid $16.05 by county for 32 yards of gravel 1126/1920 His 46 acre farm was sold by the sheriff for back taxes on February 3, 1923 to L. T. Vincent. Wiley lost the land due to buying tobacco futures which devalued. 10-16-1871 Appointed surveryor of Mayfield-Paris road. 3-16-1891 Appointed surveryor of Farmington-Pryorsburg road.
