Marie-Reine Mesnard (later family spelling Ménard) was born on 9 Dec 1701 at Contrecoeur, which was then part of the Gouvernement de Montréal in Nouvelle-France. [1]
She was the daughter of Pierre Mesnard (Ménard) and Suzanne Laporte dite St-Georges. [1] [2]
On 8 Jan 1735, Marie-Reine (who was then 33) married Dominique Gareau, who was a widower at age 50, with five children from his marriage to Geneviève Daunay. [1] [2]
Marie-Reine and Dominique lived together for the next thirty years, raising children from his prior marriage and having additional children of their own. [3]
Marie-Reine died at the age of about 63, on 16 Feb 1765 - and was buried in the town in which she was born, Contrecoeur - but which had recently become part of British America.[2]
