Hi James .. I think we need a source for evidence that he changed his given name from Menard to Minor. Many French Canadian Families who migrated kept their given name even when they listed their children with an Americanized transition. I've never found a source that he would have authored that lists him changing his given name. Some French Canadian families did change or transitioned their given with an Americanized spelling when they migrated. Not sure that he did.

I haven't found any source that he used or preferred "Nelson." The only record I've seen is when the census taker choose Nelson as it sounded like Narcisse to some American census takers.  ? Do you have a death record for him ? or a Land record ?

What do you think ?

C'est Bon ..

P.S. Unfortunately there are tons of misinformation on FamilySearch and It would be great if you have some fact based sources ? Thank you for your collaboration ..

P.S.S. I added the 1861 Canadian census to help. Notice common Menard name and birth locations.

Menard-1775 and Menard-709 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate .. Menard LNAB, "Minor" misspelling and or variant
