Biography

Andre Menard has French origins.

Andre Menard, son of Pierre Barthelemy Menard and Christine Dore, was born c.1782 in or near St. Martinville, Louisiana, when it was under Spanish rule.

He married Celeste LaViolette in 1806.[1][2]

Known children of the marriage:

  1. Celeste Caroline Menard (c.1808)[3][4]
  2. Marie Carmelite Menard (1811)[5][6]
  3. Andre Menard (1813)[7][8]

His first wife, Celeste LaViolette, died in late November of 1815. She was 24.[9]

Andre married again just over a year later in 1817 to Marguerite Picard, a widow.[10][11]

Their known children were:

  1. Gaspard Valsin Menard (1819)[12]
  2. Hypolite Menard (1822)[13]
  3. Louise Amelia Menard (1824)[14]
  4. Henriette Josephine Menard (b/d 1826)[15]
  5. Eloi Dolze Menard (1827)[16]
  6. Jacques Dorsely Menard (1829)[17]
  7. Marie Helena Menard (1832)[18]

He died before 29 October 1836, the date of his succession in the St. Martinville, Louisiana courthouse. Only three of his children were named as heirs.[19]
