Carl John Mengedoht-11, George Frederick Mengedoht-12 and Katherine Mengedoht-13 were adopted by Friedrich Mengedoht and Margaret Willard. Supposedly, their parents were Sjostrom of Sweden. Sources needed.

"My grandfather, Carl H. Mengedoht owned the market from the 1940's to the 1970's when the city bought it. He ran the meat market with his son, my father, George "Bud" Mengedoht. My memories are from the 1950's and 60's. Margaret Mengedoht Vicente."

("Sanitary Public Market is an odd name, but it is the name of one of the buildings included in the Pike Place Market historic district complex of structures. Built in 1910 and it's arcade extended in 1911, this market was so named for the fact that horses were not allowed inside under the roof. Today the building houses several shops and eateries as well as a couple of produce stalls, the creamery, and a meat market as well as rent subsidized apartments on it's upper floors. This building sits between Post Alley on the west, First Avenue on the East, Pine Street on it's north and the brick Corner Market Building to the south. Standing on the building's awning you can see one of the artist decorated pig sculptures from the annual Market fundraising event Pigs on Parade. The flower boxes which adorn most of the buildings at the market give a European feel to the area during the late spring and summer. - Posted 28th August 2008 by Chuck Pefley")
