Biography

Anna Lina Martha MENGERSEN was born on 20 March, 1869 in Lobethal, South Australia. Her parents were Herman MENGERSEN and Johanne 'Anna' DOHRENWENDT^[1]. She was one of eight children.

She changes her name to Lina Blanca MENGERSEN sometime prior to marriage^[2].

Lina married George WATERFORD (formally known as KREUSLER) on 28 Janaruary, 1901, at St Stephen Lutheran Church, Adelaide, South Australia^[3][4].

The following is text from a local newspaper announcing the marriage: KREUSLER-MENGERSEN.-On the 28th Janu- ary, at St. Stephen's Luth. Church, Wakefield street. Adelaide, by the Rev. Dr. E. J. Eitel, George Ernest, eldest son of Mr. William Kreusler, of Nickalapeko, River Murray, to Lina Blanca. fourth daughter of Mr. Hermann D. Mengersen, of East parade, Kensington - South Australian Register (Adelaide, SA : 1839 - 1900) Wed 27 Feb 1901.^[5]

Together, Lina and George have two children, Leo WATERFORD^[6]. and Oscar WATERFORD^[7]. The births of both sons were registered under the name KREUSLER.

All members of the family changed their last name to WATERFORD sometime around 1916. This was a common practice throughout South Australia during a time of Anti German sentiment^[8].

At age 71, Lina passed away on 17 January, 1941, in Malvern, South Australia^[9].
