DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

You will find several Conrad Menges listed in Berks County around 1776. Note "C" Conrad MIngus was in Rockland Twp. I'm going to change John's birthdate to just 1776, as the August 12th date obviously refers to a this other John.

I have had him as a child of Johan and Elizabeth with Menges family sources and also Somerset Past, but just found his baptism with the father listed as Conrad.

"Pennsylvania Births and Christenings, 1709-1950," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/V2VK-LPS : accessed 28 January 2016), Johann Jacob Menges, 18 Aug 1776; Christening, citing Rockland Twp, Berks, Pennsylvania; FHL microfilm 1,036,047. I cannot identify a Conrad of the age to be his parent.
