Reverend Foy C. Mercer was born 19 August 1918 in Candler County, Georgia, the son of William Walton Mercer and Alice Moseley Mercer[1].

In 1920[2], he lived with his parents and siblings in Aline, Candler County, Georgia.

His family moved to North Carolina some time between 1922 and 1927, as they appear on the 1930[3] and 1940[4] census in Gastonia, North Carolina.

He married Mary Bagwell.

Their daughter Joyce was born in 1941[5], and son Roger Dale in 1944[6].

He enlisted in the Army 24 June 1944[7]. He was truck driver and was awarded an EAME Service Medal with one bronze service star, a Good Conduct medal, and a World War II Victory Medal[8].

His daughter Joyce was married in 1960[9].

He was mentioned in his mother Alice's obituary in 1989[10].

He died 15 June 2015 in Gaston County, North Carolina and was buried in Hillcrest Gardens, Mount Holly, Gaston County, North Carolina[1].

Rev. Foy C. Mercer, 96, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015.

He was a native of Candler County, Georgia, son of the late William Walton and Alice Moseley Mercer. In addition to his parents Foy was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Bagwell Mercer and a son, Rev. Roger Dale Mercer.

Foy was a retired Bishop with the Church of God. He pastored seven churches, two of which he organized; Grover and Catawba Heights Church of God. He served on the Church of God State Licensing Board. He was a current member of Dallas Church of God. He was active in God's work until his mid-nineties.

Foy was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II.

Foy is survived by his wife, Susan Carpenter Mercer; daughter, Joyce(Richard); brother, William (Alma); sisters, Mable (Boyd), Nadine; daughter-in-law, Myra; five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

In addition to his parents, first wife and son, he was preceded in death by brother, Ernest D. Mercer; and sisters, Lorene Mercer Stamey and Dottie Mercer Benoy.

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the Dallas Church of God.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Dallas Church of God with Pastor Danny Shortridge and Pastor Brett Davis officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly with Military Honors rendered by the Gaston County Honor Guard.
