I wonder whether he didn't first marry Jean Primrose, George Mercer. Scotland Marriages, 1561-1910 Spouse's Name: Jean Primrose Event Date: 07 Feb 1812 Event Place: Tulliallan, Perth, Scotland There are no further records for Jean and George, making me wonder whether she died.

This is all the information there is I'm afraid- the'pro' means that they were proclaimed (ie the Banns had been proclaimed) and at least it says they were actually married! Some only have the fact that the banns were paid for and you just have to assume that a marriage went ahead ( and sometimes it didn't)
