Biography

The National Library of Australia has scanned the "Diary of Alexander Mercer, Selkirk, Scotland, 1777-1861". Alexander Mercer wrote this book with the intention of providing a record for future generations. It includes many notes on the family. However, it also includes many details about life in Selkirk during his lifetime in general. It include tracking prices of important items, the progress of a wave of cholera at the time, and details of friction between two church groups and the dividing of the parish into two camps.^[1]
