Thomas Mercer and Ann Blashill married 1841 in Goxhill, a very small village near Hornsea in East Yorkshire. [2]
Thomas Mercer and Ann Blashill had ten children in the villages of the plain of Holderness, east of Hull: a huge family to live on the wage of an agricultural labourer: It is no surprise that they mostly leave home at 14.
Elizabeth in Withernwick
Robert in South Skirlaugh
Ann, Frances and Ellen in Burstwick
Martha, John, Sarah, Thomas and James in Sproatley.
A Full House 1851 Sproatley
Almost ten years after their marriage Thomas and Ann Mercer have six children, born in four different villages, the last being Sproatley where they now live, and as it turns out settle down. [3]
Only the first two are found in IGI baptisms.
More Children 1861 Sproatley
In 1861 the Mercers are still in Sproatley and though the eldest four children have left to find jobs ,four more children have been born there and replace them. [4]
Death 1867 York?
Probably dead bef 1871 - wife described as widow.
BUT there is no death in FreeBMD closer than York , why would he be 40 miles from home? [5]
