Born 1876 Leven Yorkshire

Walter Frederick Mercer was born in 1876 in Leven, a large village half way between Beverley and Hornsea to the east, and also on the Low Road from Hull in the south to Bridlington in the North. ^[1] Walter is the son of George Mercer at this time a miller in the busy village and his wife Hannah Clappison. ^[2]

Farmer's Son 1881 Ulrome

By 1881 Walter's father is no longer a miller living in Leven, but a farmer with 140 acres in Ulrome near Skipsea on the North Sea coast. Not a great distance but a great change. ^[3]

Marriage 1910 Ulrome
