Unknown Merchant was born about 1794 the daughter of John Merchant and Nancy Mills. According to the 1820 census Unknown Merchant had four brothers and four sisters. Before the 1820 census was taken she married Richard Odom and they are enumerated in Pike County, Mississippi where they are living in the next dwelling to her parents. [1]

At some point after the 1840 census, Unknown Merchant died. By the 1850 census, Richard has married Elizabeth Cook widow of Joseph Purvis.

Marchant-413 and Merchant-438 appear to represent the same person because: Richard Odom's wife is an unknown daughter of John Merchant and Nancy Betty Elizabeth Mills. It is known that they had 3 or 4 daughters but their names are largely unknown. There is absolutely no proof that Richard's wife's name is Jane although many internet trees have assigned her that name. Many others have named her Nancy and even some have assigned her as Sarah.
