Biography
Emma was born in 1847. She is the daughter of Hamilton Merrick and Nancy Langdon. She was living in Steuben, New York in 1860, where her father farmed to support the family.[1] The whole family was still living in Oneida County in 1870.[2] She died in Rome, New York, on Feb. 20 1930, a short time after celebrating her 56th anniversary with her husband, William Carpenter.[3] She was also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Stratton and Miss Florence A. Carpenter and three grandchildren. She was a member of the WCTU and taught sunday school in the M E Methodist church.
