Edward was the son of Joseph Merrick and Maria Jane Wood he was born at Richmond NSW in 1833. Died in 1925 at Martindale in the Muswellbrook shire at the good age of 92 years at his son's house, he was buried at Noisy Point cemetery Howes Valley NSW. Married in 1864 at Howes Valley to Elizabeth Charlotte MACKENZIE.

MR. EDWARD MERRICK. The death occurred of Mr. Edward Merrick at the residence of his son John Merrick, at Martindale, at the age of 92 years. He was one of the old pioneers of the Gulf country, where he spent over 30 years, and had vivid memories of the bushranging days. He lived many years in Howe's Valley, Giants Creek, and Denman districts, and was born on the Hawkesbury River. The deceased is survived by two sons and three daughters: John Edward (Martindale), James Richard (Islington), Mrs, Hensler (Normanton (Queensland), Mrs. Tyley ( England), and Mrs. Reid (Rockhampton, Queensland). The internment took place at Denman in the C. of E. cemetery.
DEATH OF A PIONEER. The death has occurred of Mr. Edward Merrick, at the residence of his son (John) at Martindale, Denman, at the age of 92 years. He was one of the old pioneers of the Gulf Country, where he spent about 30 years, of his life. He had vivid recollections of the bushranging days, and lived for 'many, years in the Howe's Valley, Giant's Creek, and Denman districts. He was born at Hawkesbury River, and was of a, very hardy type, having tended the vegetable garden at his son's residence until a month or so ago. He has left a grown-up family of two Sons and three daughters — John Edward (Martindale), James Richard (Islington), Mrs. Henssler (Normanton, Queensland), Mrs. Tyley (England), and Mrs. Reid (Rockhampton, Queensland). The Merricks (or Meyricks as the old spelling was) had 'Merrick Farm' just over the river at North Richmond. There were Edward (I.), John, William and Joseph Merrick, each of whom had 60 acre farm grants. The Meyricks were amongst the first to settle at or near the village of Enfield (North Richmond), which is on private property formerly belonging to Lieutenant William Bell, a brother of Archibald Bell (I.), of Belmont.
PASSING OF A PIONEER: Mr. Edward Merrick, who died recently at Martindale, Denman, aged 92, was born on the Hawkesbury River, and after pioneering in the Gulf country lived for many years in Howes Valley and Denman. A hardy old bushman, he had vivid recollections of Thunderbolt, the bushranger, and also the hostile aboriginals. The Merrick family was among the first to cross the Hawkesbury and settled at the foot of Kurrajongs on land belonging to the celebrated Lieutenant Bell, of Belmont Park. Mr. Merrick's brothers and sisters still reside at Howes Valley, all of ripe old ages, Mr. C. V. Cafe of Wyrallub road, being a nephew.
