Biography

Richard Merrill was born 31 Jan 1712. He was the son of Richard Merrill and Elsje Dorlandt. He passed away 19 Dec 1797. [1]

Richard was baptised abt. 19 April 1715 Staten Island, son of Richard "Merrel" mother not stated. Wits. Adriaen Van Wogelom and Bennettie Ryck.[2][3]

Richard Merrill's will is dated 2 May 1797 in Piscataway, Middlesex, New Jersey. Named wife Eve, son Lambert, the farm where he now lived, formerly owned by John Shotwell, when Lambert dies it is to be divided between his two sons Richard and Abraham. To son John land and meadow on Staten Island, formerly that of Daniel Shotwell. To son Richard the home plantation. To daughter Anna Manning, wife of William Manning, 50 pounds. To daughter Else Manning 50 pounds. He mentions grandchildren. Names exe son Richard and son-in-law William Manning. There is the gifting of Negro slaves. Proved 22 Dec 1797. Lib 36 page 505. [4]
