In 1855, Charles (age 39 - worked as a farmer), lived in Methuen, with his wife Lydia (age 36), their daughter Isabell M. (age 9), their daughter Sarah A. (age 7), their daughter Harriet A. (age 4), their son Charles E. (age 4), his father James (age 69 - worked as a farmer) and his mother Abby (age 62)[6].
On May 19, 1858, Charles and Lydia gave birth to their son Joseph Merrill, in Methuen, Massachusetts[7][8].
In 1860, Charles (age 44 - worked as a laborer), lived in Methuen with his father James (age 74 - listed head of household and worked as a farmer) and his mother Abigail (age 67 - worked as a housekeeper), wife Lydia (age 40 - worked at keeping house), daughter Isabel M. (age 13), daughter Sarah A. (age 12), daughter Hattie E. Merrill (age 10), son Charles Merrill (age 5) and son Joseph (age 2)[9].
In 1865, Charles (age 49 - worked as a farmer) lived in Methuen with his wife Lydia (age 45 - worked at keeping house), their daughter Isabell M. (age 18), daughter Sarah A. (age 17), daughter Hattie A. (age 15), son Charles E. (age 10), son Eugene Merrill (age 7) and his mother Abigail Merrill (age 72)[10].
On Novemer 29, 1867, Charles and Lydia's daughter Isabella married Orlow Austin, in Salem, New Hampshire[11][12].
On June 11,1869, daughter Sarah A. (age 20) married John B. Merrill (age 22 - born in Atkinson, New Hampshire and worked as a carpenter), in Methuen[13].
In 1870, Charles (age 54 - worked as a farmer) lived with his wife Lydia (age 51), daughter Hattie (age 19 - worked in a shoe shop), son Charles (age 15 - worked on the farm) and son Joseph (age 12 - attended school)[14][15][16].
On October 21, 1880, daughter Hattie (age 30) married George W. Blanchard (age 34 - worked as a shoemaker) in Salem, New Hampshire[17].
In 1880, Charles (age 64 and worked as a farmer), lived in Methuen, with his wife Lydia (age 61 - worked at keeping house), son Joseph (age 22 - worked on the farm) and his mother Abigail (age 87 - worked at keeping house)[18].
On May 6, 1885, son Joseph E. (age 23 - worked as a farmer) married Jennie Oikle (age 24 - born in Nova Scotia and worked as a housekeeper), in Methuen[19].
On January 14, 1897, daughter Sarah Alzena Merrill, passed away of Brights Disease, in Massachusetts[20].
Charles Merrill (age 82) passed away, of Grippe, on January 13, 1899, in Methuen, Essex County, Massachusetts[21][22] and was buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, in Salem, Rockingham County, New Hampshire[23].
