Biography

Catherine Ellen Merrill was born around Feb 1890 to parents Ralph Edwin Merrill (1844-1917) (1844-1917) and Rosa Mae Shoales (1862-1902).^[1][2] (Discrepancies as to where she was born - see research notes. Left blank until resolved.)

In 1900 at age 10, Catherine E was living with her parents Edwin (53) and "Road" (sic) (37), an older half-brother Charles C Merrill (11), and four younger siblings - Fanny E Merrill (1891-1970) (8), Cynthia R Merrill (5), and twins Sidney Merrilland Sarah Merrill (3) in Sherburne, Chenango, NY.^[3]

At the age of 21, "Katharine Ellen Merrill" married Harry John McDaniel (28), the son of Jay McDaniel and Julia O'Brien McDaniel.^[1]

A son, Harry E McDaniel (1917-1944), (1 Mar 1917 - 6 Dec 1944) was born on 1 Mar 1917.^[4]

In 1920 Ellen (29) and Harry J (36) were living on East Street in Sherburne, Chenango, NY with their two children, Julia E McDaniel Briglin and Harry E McDaniel.^[5]

In 1930 his younger brother, John M McDaniel (8), is shown as part of the family.^[6]

Ellen died at age 40-41 on 4 May 1931 and was buried at Saint Malachy Cemetery in Sherburne, Chenango, New York.^[2]

Chenango County, NY vs Sherburne County, MN

[[A marriage to Alexander Holmes in 1911 ^[2] is an error]]. Holmes was not from the USA and died the first day of battle in Europe. I see no evidence of a 2nd marriage the same year as her marriage to McDaniel. I have notified FindaGrave to remove the link; however now Ancestry.com won't open the link to FaG and FaG won't allow entry of a correct spouse. FaG issue needs to be resolved when both sites are functioning properly.
