Biography

Mary was a Friend (Quaker)

Mary was born on 27d 3m 1770 [27 Mar 1770] in New York.^[1] She was the daughter of Daniel Merritt and Sarah (Mudge) Merritt.^[1][2]

She married first John Searing, son of John and Mary of North Hempstead, on 14m 10m 1789 [14 Oct 1789] in the Oblong Meeting House in Dutchess County, New York.^[3]

She married second Asahel Lyon, son of Peter (deceased) and Abigail of Reading, Connecticut, on 24d 8m 1808 [24 Aug 1808] in the Oblong Meeting House in Dutchess County, New York.^[4]

Mary was received on certificate along with Asahel on 19d 5m 1814 [19 May 1814] at the Nine Partners monthly meeting.^[5]

Following Asahel's death in 1830, Mary was granted a certificate to the Oswego monthly meeting.^[6][7] She returned to the Nine Partners monthly meeting in 1834.^[8]

She died in 1849.
