Biography

Henry Merritt was probably born in England prior to his parent's arrival in the Plymouth Colony in 1626.

Henry was able to bear arms in Scituate in 1643.

The History of Scituate, Massachussetts reports that he died without a family in 1673.[1]

However, the Revised Merritt Records state he may be the Henry Merritt who was made a Freeman of Boston in 1657. Creditor of estate of Mahalaleel Munnings of Dorchester, 1659 (Early Wills of Boston). Made his Will 9 Feb., 1662, leaving property to wife, eldest son John, two other children not named, and grandchild, Samuel Hett.[2]
