Cecil, born in 1877, was the son of William Ingersoll Merritt and Beatrice Mary Adams. He married Sophie Almond Tupper in 1905 in Vancouver, British Columbia. At the time of their marriage, he worked as a merchant.[1] After their marriage, they lived in Vancouver, where their three children were born.[2]
During the First World War, he served as a captain with the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish, 72nd Seaforth Highlanders) of the Canadian Expeditionary Force and was killed in action at the Second Battle of Ypres.[3][4]
