Research Notes

The death certificate of her son, Beach, gives her name as Violette Basset and her birth location as Newtown, Connecticut. This birth location is not supported by any other source. The Barbour Collection, for Stratford, shows an Ann(Aner) V. Bassett that married George Merritt. The 1850 Census shows her name as "Anna B." When spoken B and V sound very similar, so it may simply be a transcription error. It is possible that all these sources represent the same person, or more than one person.
Therefore, it appears that Violetta:
m1. Stratford, 4 Jan. 1824 George Merritt from Huntington
m2. Stratford, 13 June 1830 James Alaby.
