Maria was born about 1799.
John Newman and Maria Merry were married at the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Beckley, Oxfordshire on 10th May 1819. John was a widower, Maria was a spinster and they were both of the parish. Neither could write so they both made their mark on the register with a cross and the witnesses to the marriage were George Merry and Ann Merry.[1]
David Becketts and Maria Newman were married after banns at the Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Beckley, Oxfordshire on 19th September 1842.[2] They were both 43 and living in Beckley. David was a widower, working as a labourer and the son of David Beckett who was a drover. Maria was a widow and the daughter of William Merry who was a labourer. David signed his own name on the register (as Beckets) whilst Maria could only make her mark with a cross. The witnesses to the marriage were William Tompkins, Maria Stanton and William Harris.[3]
